The West Indies and Australia were evenly poised at stumps on day two of the first Test at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
The West Indies began Thursday 57-4, trailing Australia by 123 runs on first innings with debutant Brandon King on 23 and captain Roston Chase on one.
King added just three to his overnight score before he was the first wicket to fall on the day.
Returning wicket-keeper batsman Shai Hope joined his captain at the crease and the pair batted through to the lunch interval, eventually adding 67 for the sixth wicket before Chase fell LBW off the bowling of Australia skipper Pat Cummins for 44.
Justin Greaves was next to go not long after for four before Hope fell for a top score of 48 two overs later to leave the score at 162-8.
The hosts were eventually bowled out for 190 two balls into the 64th over.
Alzarri Joseph finished 23* and provided some important runs late in the innings.
Mitchell Starc was the pick of the Aussie bowlers with 3-65 from 16 overs while Beau Webster, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood all picked up two wickets.
Australia got to 92-4 in 33 overs at stumps to lead by 82 runs heading into day three.
Webster has led the charge, so far, with 19* while Travis Head will begin day three alongside him on 13*.
Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green had earlier made 15, each as all four West Indian quick bowlers, Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph and Justin Greaves, have all taken a wicket, each.
